Paste it into the <head> of your homepage (most website builders have a “custom code” or “header code” setting). Then check it with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Why structured data matters for local businesses

Your website already says your hours and your phone number, somewhere. Structured data says them in a standard format, so nothing has to be guessed. Google uses it to understand your business, and it gives AI assistants a clean, consistent record to read when someone asks who to call.

What is local business schema?

It's a small block of code, written in the schema.org vocabulary, that states your business facts in a format search engines read reliably: your name, type of business, address or service area, phone, hours and profiles.

Does schema markup help with Google rankings?

Structured data helps Google understand your page; it isn't a shortcut to higher rankings on its own. Its value is accuracy: it removes guesswork about who you are, where you work and when you're open, for search engines and AI assistants alike.

Where do I paste the code?

In the head section of your homepage. Most website builders have a setting for custom header code. If someone else manages your site, send them the code.

I work from home. Should I include my street address?

If you go to your customers and don't receive them at your address, tick the service-area option. The tool leaves out your street address and postal code and lists the areas you serve instead.

How do I check the code works?

Paste your page address or the code into Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator. Both are free and show any errors.
